North America and Europe reveal final 2016 World Cup of Hockey rosters

A great mix of young and old talent.

The official 2016 World Cup of Hockey rosters for Team North America and Team Europe are full of former first-round picks and Calder Trophy finalists.

The two teams were among the final World Cup sides to release final rosters on Friday. As a general reminder, both teams are comprised based on a couple of guidelines. Team North America consists solely of North American-born players who are 23 years old or younger. Team Europe is comprised of any European player who isn’t eligible to play for the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden or Finland.

Notably, North America features the likely first overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. Auston Matthews, the 18-year-old center currently playing in Zurich, is the only player on either team without an NHL club yet. He’s joined by 2015 first and second overall picks Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, 2013 first overall pick Nathan MacKinnon and 2014 first overall pick Aaron Ekblad.

Team Europe, by its nature, features a host of notable veterans. Marian Hossa, Anze Kopitar and Zdeno Chara have been playing internationally for years. Newcomers like Mikkel Boedker, Nino Niederreiter and Roman Josi should make Team Europe an interesting group to watch.
