Tom’s Ready must have watched Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby before sauntering up to the starting gate for the 2016 Belmont Stakes undercard Woody Stephens Stakes. If he wasn’t going to be first, then he was going to be last.
2016 Belmont Stakes: Tom’s Ready goes from last to first, wins Woody Stephens Stakes
Tom’s Ready. But ready for what? Victory, it seems. The three-year-old colt came from way, way behind to win the Woody Stephens Stakes undercard race.

The three-year-old colt came out of the gates and immediately found himself trailing the contenders of the race. He followed them around the seven-furlong track and, with the finish line nearing, made his move.
And like that, he snaked his way through the competition and found himself gaining on the leaders. Within a few moments, he drew shoulder-to-shoulder and then pulled away, earning the unexpected victory. From last, to first.
He came into the race with 7-1 odds.
Finishing second was Fish Trappe Road, and Star Hill was third. They went to the starting gate with 25-1 and 15-1 odds, respectively.
Tom’s Ready is owned by G M B Racing and trained by Dallas Stewart. He is the offspring of More Than Ready and Goodbye Stranger.
