After the semifinals of the men’s synchronized 3-meter springboard at the Olympic trials in Indianapolis, bronze medalists Troy Dumais and Kristian Ipsen from the London Olympics trailed behind Sam Dorman and Michael Hixon. Scoring is cumulative throughout preliminaries, semifinals and finals, so nobody is eliminated and there is room to be made up.
Olympic diving trials 2016 results: London medalists trail in Rio qualifying
Saturday’s semifinals saw a couple London medalists outclassed by a first-time pairing. They will have work to do in the finals on Wednesday.

But if the 2012 medalists hope to punch their ticket to the Rio Olympics this summer, they have to overcome a 56.52-point deficit to the leaders going into the finals. They were trailing going into the semifinals as well, but only by 28 points following the preliminary round. Unfortunately, they messed up a dive in the third round, skewing their overall score and making room for Dorman and Hixon.
Dumais and Ipsen earned one of a handful of medals for US Diving in 2012, with David Boudia taking the country’s lone gold in the sport, on the solo 10-meter platform. Their highest-scoring dive in the preliminary round was worth just 88.20 points, while Dorman and Hixon managed a superior 91.20 points with their final dive of the session.
In the women’s 10-meter platform, it’s Jessica Parratto and Amy Cozad who came out on top. They have a score of 617.28 after the semifinals, well ahead of Anna James and Katrina Young, who came in second at 576.00. The next two were also very close, and the finals will definitely be something to watch. Samantha Bromberg and Delaney Schnell posted a score of 560.64 in third, while Krysta Palmer and Tarrin Gilliland came in at 544.02.
The finals for both of these events will be on Wednesday, June 22, set to run from 9 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET on NBCSN and online at NBC Sports.
