Providing the weather continues to hold up, both the men’s and women’s quarterfinals will wrap up on Thursday at Roland Garros. The tournament schedule has been skewed due to multiple rain delays, including a complete rainout of matches on Monday and a near-complete rainout on Tuesday.
French Open 2016: Times, TV schedule, matches and live stream for Thursday at Roland Garros
The quarterfinals will get wrapped up at the 2016 French Open on Thursday. Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams will be in action against Tomas Berdych and Yulia Putintseva.

But the semifinals are nearly set, barring four quarterfinal matches that still need to be played. The first on the day will feature Novak Djokovic, the top seed, going up against No. 7 Tomas Berdych on Philippe-Chatrier Court. Women’s top seed Serena Williams will also be in action, taking on unseeded Yulia Putintseva. David Goffin will face Dominic Thiem, and Timea Bacsinszky will face Kiki Bertens in the other quarterfinals on the day.
Djokovic has never won at the French Open, falling to Stan Wawrinka in the finals last year. That came after Djokovic eliminated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, and just about everyone involved thought he was on his way to completing his career Grand Slam. He already holds multiple wins at each of Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the Australian Open.
As far as making the semifinals is concerned, Djokovic should be heavily favored. He owns a dominant 23-2 record over Berdych in professional play, and last lost to the Czech player in Italy in 2013. They have met twice already in 2016, both being straight-set wins for Djokovic.
Williams has only met Putintseva twice, matches that she won. Interestingly, Putintseva has pushed Williams to a first-set tiebreak in both matches before fading in the second. They last played on the hard courts of Indian Wells earlier this year. Williams is looking at a draw that seemed brutal at first, but both Ana Ivanovic and Agnieszka Radwanska were knocked out before she could reach them, which is great news for her.
It’s also probably a good reminder that she can’t overlook anyone, even the unseeded Putintseva.
Bertens, the other unseeded player on Thursday, will be facing a tall task in Bacsinszky, who is coming off a victory over No. 9 Venus Williams. The two have only ever played once, back in 2014 when Bacsinszky got the victory due to a retirement. Bertens had actually won a first-set tiebreak and was on her way to winning the match when she had to pull out.
Goffin and Thiem round out the day of play. The two have met six times, with Goffin taking the win in four of those matches. Both are younger, up-and-coming players, with Goffin taking the most recent match at the Australian Open this year. He needed four sets to win, overcoming a two-match losing skid to Thiem from their two meetings in 2015.
Television coverage of the day begins at 7 a.m. ET on the Tennis Channel. Online streaming is available at NBC Sports Live Extra and the Tennis Channel.
