Danell Leyva was the only man to score a medal for the United States in gymnastics at the 2012 London Olympics, but going into the second of two Olympic trials on Saturday, he finds himself trailing and in third place. The medal he won did happen to be a bronze in all-around competition. He has 88.725 points after this first day of trials in St. Louis.
US Olympic trials 2016: Time and TV schedule for men’s gymnastics on Saturday
The final day of the Olympic men’s gymnastics trials is set for Saturday.

The first day of competition included all six gymnastics events set to be at the 2016 Rio Olympics: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar. Every competitor participated in every event, and on Saturday they will do it all again with scores from both days being factored into the final results.
Sam Mikulak, himself a former Olympian who did not manage to get a medal last time around, leads the 18 competitors after the first day. Mikulak’s score of 90.650 is just barely ahead though, with 12-of-18 competitors scoring 85 or better. Chris Brooks comes in second with a score of 89.175, with Leyva in third. Donothan Bailey has a score of 88.350 in fourth place while Jacob Dalton and Donnell Whittenburg tied for fifth at 88.325.
Saturday’s event will get underway at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on NBC, though their coverage won’t pick up until 9 p.m. To catch the gymnastics trials from the beginning, a live stream will be available via NBC Sports beginning at 8 p.m. The event will last about two hours.
