Sunday is a big day for the United States Olympic trials. The events, held to determine who will represent the country in the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympics, have been going throughout the summer and will continue through July. On Sunday, the USA Diving trials will wrap up with the much-anticipated men’s individual 10-meter platform event and US Olympic Swimming will get underway with their first event.
Olympic trials 2016 schedule: Diving 10-meter platform finals highlight Sunday
The final of the USA Diving Olympic trials is the headliner for Sunday.

While swimming is just getting started, the diving trials will wrap up with its biggest event. David Boudia won Olympic gold in the 10-meter platform during the 2012 London Olympics, the only American to bring home the gold in the sport that year. It’s a sport that has been dominated by China in recent years, but Boudia is once again looking in fine form and the young Steele Johnson is pushing him to be even better.
Johnson is Boudia’s partner in the synchronized 10-meter platform event. They have already qualified for the Olympics and will represent the US in that event. But they’re competing in the solo event, alongside wildcard David Dinsmore, for two spots in the individual event.
After the preliminaries and semifinals (and scoring is cumulative throughout the three rounds), Boudia leads with 1,007.25 points, Johnson is in second at 961.80 and Dinsmore is in third at 953.80. There are several others competing, but Zachary Cooper is next in fourth at 768.15 and those after him would need a bad performance from the top competitors to stand a chance.
For swimming, Sunday’s events include the men’s 400-meter individual medley, 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter breastroke as well as the women’s 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley in the first group. The second group will include the men’s 400-meter individual medley, 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter breastroke on top of the women’s 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley. Finally, a third group will feature the men’s 400-meter individual medley final, 400-meter freestyle final and 100-meter breastroke final in addition to the women’s 100-meter butterfly semifinal and the women’s 400-meter individual medley final.
The swimming trials will take place between Sunday, June 26 and July 3 in Omaha, Neb.
The swimming preliminaries will take place earlier in the day, beginning at 11 a.m. and running for about three hours. These will not be on television, but NBC Sports will have a live stream of the full events. The other group of events will begin at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBCSN, with the third group of events beginning at 8 p.m. and being broadcast on NBC. Live streams will be available of all three groups. The diving trials are set to begin at 7 p.m. and will last an hour. These will be on television, broadcast on NBC and also available via live stream.
