US Olympic swimming trials 2016: Time, TV schedule and Wednesday events for Team USA

Michael Phelps got in on the action at the USA Swimming trials on Tuesday and he’ll be in the water again on Wednesday.

Michael Phelps finally got in the water and dazzled on Tuesday at the USA Swimming trials. Originally expected to compete on Monday in the 200-meter freestyle, Phelps dropped the event to focus on the 200-meter butterfly. He dominated the prelims of that event on Tuesday and on Wednesday he will be shooting for a spot on the Olympic team in the event.

Phelps, who holds the top four performances in the 200-meter butterfly’s history, will see the water again for 100-meter freestyle preliminaries and semifinals early on Wednesday. Prelims on the day begin at 11 a.m. and will be available via live stream online at NBC Sports. The finals in the 200-meter butterfly will be on Wednesday evening, and will be broadcast on NBC beginning around 8 p.m., with a live stream also available.

The other so-called “big four” of American swimming will also be in action on Wednesday. Ryan Lochte will be competing in the 100-meter freestyle prelims and semifinals along with Phelps. Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky will also both be competing in the 200-meter freestyle finals for the women. Those finals will also be broadcast on NBC between 8 p.m. and 9:20 p.m.

The full slate of events for Wednesday include the men’s 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter breaststroke prelims and semifinals alongside the 200-meter butterfly finals. On the women’s side, the 200-meter butterfly prelims and semifinals will preceded by the 200-meter freestyle finals and the 200-meter individual medley finals.

Two blocks of preliminary events will precede the semifinals and finals coverage on NBC. At 11 a.m., the first set of prelims will begin and will be live streamed by NBC Sports but will not be televised. The second block, beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting about an hour, will be broadcast by NBCSN and via live stream. The semifinals and finals will be available on NBC from 8 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and, like the rest, will be live streamed.
