Friday’s action at the 2016 X Games in Austin began with the amateur street skating competition, and it was as exciting as promised. The competition, which begins much earlier in the year with regional qualifying events throughout the world, pits the best amateur skaters in a competition that was ultimately won by Tyson Bowerbank, with Christian Dufrene and Jagger Eaton coming in second and third, respectively.
X Games Austin results, Day 2: Jamie Bestwick lands 14th gold medal with BMX Vert win
Jamie Bestwick dominated the BMX Vert competition on Friday at the 2016 X Games in Austin.

It’s the second year they have run the Street AMs competition in Austin and smart money is on it sticking around, so long as there’s a steady stream of exciting talent coming in the pipeline.
Sticking with skateboarding, the Skateboard Vert Final also took place on Friday and it featured some of the biggest names in skating, including long-time veterans Bob Burnquist and Bucky Lasek. Lasek had an excellent showing and earned a score of 85.66, but that put him just outside the medals at No. 4 overall.
Mitchie Brusco had a really impressive ending to one of his heats, as shared by the X Games Twitter account:

Sam Beckett ultimately took the gold with a score of 89.33 and an excellent run overall. Moto Shibata came in second, just behind him with a score of 88.66, while Jimmy Wilkins took bronze at 86.00.
In the BMX Vert Finals, Jamie Bestwick had the top score with a 90.66 and took home the gold medal, with Simon Tabron and Dennis McCoy coming up well behind with an 86.00 and 84.00, respectively. In similar fashion to the skateboarding vert, each rider gets a number of runs to try and put up the most cohesive and impressive showing to the judges.
Bestwick was favored to take the gold from the onset, as he came into this tournament as a 13-time gold medalist. He won handily, and given the moves he put up at the end of his first run, it’s easy to see why he won his 14th.

In the Moto X Freestyle competition, the goal is simple: do really ridiculous and dangerous things on a motorcycle and do them more ridiculous and more dangerous than your opponents. On Friday, it was Josh Sheehan who came out on top with a gold medal and a score of 93.33, beating out Rob Adelberg and his 91.66 and Clinton Moore at 91.00.
The final event from Friday was the Skateboard Big Air competition, but severe weather postponed the night’s finale into Saturday.
