This innovative bike helmet could make cycling in traffic so much safer

The CLASSON helmet might be the most important thing to happen to cycling in the last 30 years. We’re not talking about innovations in frames or lighter materials, but its core concept is technology paired with safety in a pretty cool way.

Sharing the road with vehicles is a constant threat to cyclists. Everyone has a story of a motorist (knowingly or unknowingly) running them off the road. The helmet helps alleviate that worry by having small LED lights built into the brim that let you know when a car is in your blind spot thanks to the assistance of cameras built into the helmet’s rear.

In addition, it will record video front and back in the case of an accident, has built-in turn and brake signals, and can be hooked up to a navigation app that will guide you through the LED lights under the brim.

There are still just over two days left in the Kickstarter. The helmet is currently selling for $99, with plans to retail for $299 after release. It just might be the most important cycling innovation we’ve seen in a long time.
