USA Track & Field Olympic trials: Time, TV schedule and events for Sunday

Several spots on Team USA for the 2016 Rio Olympics will be up for grabs at the U.S. Track and Field trials on Sunday.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The highly anticipated men’s 100- and 400-meter race finals will take place at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic trials from Eugene, Ore. on Sunday. The trials are held before the Summer Olympics to determine who will represent Team USA at said Olympics. Rio is right around the corner and athletics are taking center stage after the conclusion of men’s gymnastics and diving trials.

Swimming trials will also wrap up on Sunday, leaving track and field and women’s gymnastics as the only significant sports with ongoing or not-yet-completed trials. Sunday will feature the men and women’s 100- and 400-meter race finals, which will be broadcast on NBC live beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. A live stream will also be available via NBC Sports.

Other finals on the day include the men’s long jump and the women’s high jump, which both should be available in the first of two NBC Sports live streams. Those events will not be televised, but the streams should contain all you need to keep track.

The men’s 110-meter hurdle, discus throw, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter decathlon events will be joined by the 100-meter semifinals on Sunday. The women’s side will just include the aforementioned 100- and 400-meter race finals and the high jump finals.

The United States holds a massive 320 gold medals and 767 total medals in Athletics at the Summer Olympics. The “Athletics” category comprises track and field, road running and racewalking events. Great Britain has 194 total medals, in second place overall. The U.S. managed 28 total medals in Athletics at the 2012 London Olympics.
