The Rangers beat out the Indians in a battle to add some power to their lineup. Carlos Beltran is reportedly being traded to Texas, according to FanRagSports’ Jon Heyman, with the Yankees receiving right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate in the deal. The Yankees are also acquiring prospects Nick Green and Erik Swanson in the deal.

Beltran has been mostly serving as a designated hitter for the Yankees to this point in 2016. Of the 104 games played by New York so far, Beltran has played in 99 games and batted .304/.344/.546 with 22 home runs, 21 doubles, and 64 RBI.

The Rangers are moving Prince Fielder from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL in order to make room for Beltran on their 40-man roster.

Now in his 19th season in the majors, Beltran has a 134 wRC+, fourth-highest in MLB for any player 30 years or older. At 39 years old, he is coming off two seasons where he had just 34 home runs and a .257 average.

The Red Sox were also interested in Beltran’s services, but serious interest extended only to the Rangers and Indians in the last hours leading to the deadline. Beltran also has a no-trade clause built into his contract, but both the Rangers and Indians were not on that list.
