Spain swimmer Mireia Belmonte won gold in the women’s 200m butterfly on Sunday night in Rio. She clocked in at 2:04.85, just 3 hundredths of a second ahead of the silver medalist, Australia swimmer Madeline Grove, who finished with the quickest time in the semifinal. Japan’s Natsumi Hoshi took the bronze. It was the first time the Chinese didn’t take gold in the event since 2004.

This is Belmonte’s second medal of the Olympic games in Rio after finishing with the bronze medal in the 400m individual medley.

For the Americans, Hali Flickinger and Cammeille Adams failed to make the podium after finishing seventh and eighth respectively in the semifinal qualifier.

Adams, a 24-year-old at her second Olympic games, narrowly missed the bronze, finishing just seven tenths of a second behind Hoshi, who won bronze at the 2012 Olympic games in London as well.

Flickinger, a 21-year-old in her first Olympics, placed seventh again.
