United States swimmer Nathan Adrian came up short in his bid to win a second straight Olympic gold medal in the men’s 100-meter freestyle, but the American sprinter was not disappointed in his bronze finish.

The bronze was the sixth career Olympic medal, and third of these games for Adrian, who won this event at the 2012 games in London.
But on Wednesday in Rio it was 18-year-old Australian swimmer Kyle Chalmers who finished ahead of the pack, capturing the gold medal at 47.58 seconds, with Pieter Timmers of Belgium taking the silver with a time of 47.80 seconds.
Adrian was a close third, at 47.85 seconds.
“I can’t be upset with that,” Adrian said after the race.
