Bobby Petrino claims a hacker might’ve been responsible for NSFW Twitter activity

For most coaches, this probably wouldn’t be an issue. But with Bobby ...

Louisville’s Bobby Petrino issued an official statement Thursday after someone using his Twitter page liked a tweet that promised “five star smut.”

The oft-maligned head coach didn’t explicitly deny it was he who liked the 140-character missive that ended, in part, with the hashtag #masturbation — but he also suggested other account administrators or even a hacker could be at blame.

I was alerted this morning that there was inappropriate material on my official Twitter account. While the account is generally under my supervision, there are multiple people, and possibly an unauthorized user, who have access to my account. We’ve always taken the appropriate steps to make sure our official social media accounts are secure and we are taking measures to make sure this situation never happens again.

There’s nothing wrong with something as innocuous as liking a smutty tweet, but the Louisville coach’s history turned what should have been a one-off joke into an issue that required an official statement.

He was fired from his head coaching position at Arkansas in 2012 after paying his mistress $20,000 and employing her in the school’s athletic department. Previously, he’d drawn ire after leaving Louisville for a job with the Atlanta Falcons less than six months after signing a 10-year contract extension with the university. He quit his job in the NFL 11 months later (and two weeks after assuring reporters he wouldn’t leave), notifying his players via a 78-word typed note hung in the locker room. He accepted a job with Arkansas that very night.
