After Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte spent Thursday night racing against each other for the final time, Friday brings another look at one of the United States’ top women’s swimmers, and she’ll be around for years to come. Plus, about a week into the games, we’ll get our first taste of track and field.
Rio 2016 Olympics schedule: Time and TV schedule for Friday’s events
Katie Ledecky will try to break her own record, and track and field makes its debut.


Katie Ledecky has established her dominance in these Olympics, crushing the 400-meter freestyle world record in the process. She will have the chance to improve upon her own world record on Friday in the 800-meter freestyle. Ledecky has been amazing so far in Rio and is heavily favored for this race.
USA’s Kim Rhode is the most dominant shooter in the world, and she’ll go for her sixth straight Olympic gold in skeet shooting at 2 p.m. Fellow American Michael McPhail will compete in the men’s 50-meter prone rifle final looking for his first Olympic medal after he finished ninth in 2012.
Track and field qualifying events will be going on all day, with the first medal event the women’s 10,000-meter final at 10:10. Here’s a look at some events to watch on Friday:
