Olympic swimming results 2016: Anthony Ervin wins gold in men’s 50m freestyle

Ervin is the oldest male swimmer to win gold. The 35-year-old Ervin won gold 16 years ago in the 2000 Sydney Olympics in this event, the 50-meter freestyle, but took eight years off in the middle. It’s incredible that he can still compete for and win a medal so many years later.
France’s Florent Manaudou took the silver medal in the race with a time of 21.41 seconds. Manaudou won the event in 2012 with a time of 21.34 seconds. United States’ Nathan Adrian earned the bronze this year with a time of 21.49 seconds, winning his third medal of the Rio Games.
Ervin and Adrian are two of the three captains on the U.S. men’s swimming team, along with co-captain Michael Phelps.
