Swimming may be ramping down at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but some of the Games’ most coveted medals will be awarded in prime time on Saturday night.

Michael Phelps takes to the pool on Saturday, possibly for the last time ever.

August 13 marks the final day of indoor long course swimming in Rio, but the sport is going out with a bang. The fastest woman in the water will be crowned when the 50 meter freestyle finals take place. 100m champion Simone Manuel, fresh off of making Olympic history on Thursday night, will attempt to win a second individual gold medal. Australian Cate Campbell, who held a solid but fleeting lead halfway through that race, will be looking for redemption.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, one man will go 30 laps deep in his quest for gold in the 1500m freestyle. China’s Sun Yang, the 2012 champion, already has two medals at these games, including a gold in the 200m freestyle. He’ll try to add to that total -- and top newfound rival Mack Horton -- when he hits the blocks on Saturday night.
The day’s marquee events, however, will come in the 4x100m medley relay. The United States will attempt to defend its gold medals in both the men’s and women’s events. Michael Phelps will lead the men’s team in his quest to earn enough Olympic hardware to build his infant son a fort. His appearance in the relay may be his last Olympic appearance ever, although Ryan Lochte doubts it.
The women’s side will rekindle its rivalry with Australia, who have split the last four golds in the event 2-2 since 2000.
All times Eastern.
