Gold medalist Anthony Ervin sets ‘American Dream’ example for his newborn daughter

Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY Sports

United States swimmer Anthony Ervin made history on Friday night, winning the men’s 50-meter freestyle for his first Olympic gold medal in 16 years. A lot has happened since he first won gold in the event at Sydney in 2000. Heck, a lot has happened in the last few weeks for Ervin.

What made Ervin’s race on Friday even more remarkable was not just that, at 35, he is the oldest individual swimming gold medalist ever. Ervin has a newborn daughter at home whom he hasn’t yet met. And his message after the race to her was powerful.

Keep on pursuing that American dream, Anthony Ervin.
