Olympic swimming results 2016: United States wins gold in women’s 4x100m medley relay
The USA took gold in the women’s 4x100-meter medley relay on Saturday at the Rio Olympics.

Through the first leg, the backstroke, the US was out of the top three but just barely, with Denmark finishing first. In the breaststroke, the second leg, Lilly King looked great and put the United States in second behind Russia. The butterfly came to an end with the US on top.
The US women’s team consisted of King, the 100-meter breaststroke gold medalist, Simone Manuel, the 100-meter freestyle gold medalist, Kathleen Baker, the 100-meter backstroke silver medalist and Dana Vollmer, the 100-meter butterfly bronze medalist.
Despite some initial concern that the United States would struggle in the sport of swimming on both the men’s and the women’s sides, they have been excellent thus far. The women’s relay team was the favorite for the gold medal, and rightfully so. Italy, Australia, Denmark, the United States, Canada, Russia, China and Great Britain were the countries that qualified for the women’s relay final.
