Michael Phelps has 23 gold medals to his name, more than any Olympian in history. He picked up his final gold medal on Saturday at the 2016 Rio Olympics, swimming the butterfly leg of the men's 4x100-meter medley relay.

Phelps went out on top at the Rio Olympics.

Phelps insists that the Rio Olympics are his final Olympics, though it’s worth noting he insisted the same thing after his performance in the London Olympics. Still, he’s said multiple times that Rio is it, and he went out with a bang, helping the United States earn the gold medal over Great Britain and Australia on Saturday.
The United States trailed Great Britain slightly when Phelps went into the water third, but by the time Nathan Adrian dove in when Phelps touched the wall, the United States was back on top and they didn’t relinquish the spot. Ryan Murphy led the swim off with the 100-meter backstroke, while Cody Miller took care of the breaststroke in second.
