Jamaica’s Usain Bolt will look to headline a jam-packed night of competition as he tries to become the first man to win the 100m in three consecutive Olympics. It is the first of three events in which he will attempt this feat, as he will also attempt to defend back-to-back wins in the 200m and 4x100m. He holds the world record in each of those events.
Rio 2016 schedule: Time and TV schedule for Sunday’s Olympic events
Simone Biles, Usain Bolt, LaShawn Merritt and more will compete for medals.
Simone Biles will look to add to her gold medal count after winning in the team and individual all-around competition in the vault event. She placed the top qualifying score with a 16.050 ahead of North Korea’s Hong Un-jong and Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber.
Also on primetime, Abby Johnston and Kassidy Cook will compete in the 3m springboard final and LaShawn Merritt looks to win another medal in the 400m after taking gold in 2008. An injury took him out of contention in 2012.
