Ismael Borrero Molina of Cuba took the gold medal in the men’s Greco-Roman 59kg division on Sunday, besting Shinobu Ota of Japan in the gold medal match. Ota, accordingly, took home the silver medal. In the men’s 75kg division, it was a finals match between Roman Vlasov of Russia and Mark Overgaard Madsen of Denmark.

In the end, Vlasov came out on top. It’s worth noting that Vlasov very nearly didn’t make it to the finals, as he appeared to be choked unconscious right at the end of a match that he ultimately won on points.

In the men’s 59kg semifinal round, Borrero Molina took on Elmurat Tasmuradov of Uzbekistan, while Ota of Japan faced off against Rovshan Bayramov of Azerbaijan. It was Borrero Molina and Shinobu who came out on top in those matches, sending Tasmuradov and Bayramov to the bronze medal matches.

There, Tasmuradov took on Arsen Eraliev, who made his way up through repechage, while Bayramov faced Stig-Andre Berge of Norway, who also went up through repechage. Tasmuradov held off his opponent to earn one bronze medal, while Berge took down Bayramov in his match to earn the second bronze medal.

In the 75kg division semifinals, Vlasov of Russia took on Bozo Starcevic of Croatia in one match while Madsen of Denmark faced off against Peter Bacsi of Hungary in the other. It was Vlasov and Madsen who ultimately won those semifinals, sending Basci and Starcevic to the bronze medal matches.

There, Basci faced Saeid Morad Abdvali of Iran, while Starcevic took on Hyeonwoo Kim of South Korea. In the first bronze medal match, it was Kim who came out on top. In the other, it was Abdvali, giving those two the bronze medals.
