The stellar season Giancarlo Stanton has been putting together for the Miami Marlins has likely come to a close, according to reports from Joe Friscaro of MLB.com.
Giancarlo Stanton ‘out for rest of the year,’ according to reports
A Grade 3 left groin strain was discovered following an MRI on the 26-year-old right fielder.

Friscaro reported early Sunday that Stanton was placed on the 15-day disabled list, keeping the right fielder on the sidelines thanks to a left groin strain.
However, the injury was deemed serious enough to have an MRI done, and the results were not what Marlins fans were hoping to hear. Friscaro reported that the strain was “grade 3.” The result is the likelihood of Stanton missing the remainder of the season.

The 26-year-old Stanton has been having a solid season, hitting .244/.329/.496 with 25 home runs and 70 RBI. He had a bit of a slump in June, but since June 27 has put up a .299/.361/.582 stat line.
The most likely scenario will find the Marlins using Ichiro Suzuki to replace Stanton for the remainder of the year.
Stanton wasn’t the only Miami player placed on the 15-day DL -- he was joined by leftie pitcher Adam Conley. Conley is dealing with tendonitis on the third finger of his left hand, according to reports. He is expected to recover during the 15-day period.
