Beach volleyball continues on Monday afternoon as the final eight compete in the men’s quarterfinals. Winners will advance to be within one match of a medal.

The United States team of Phil Dalhausser and Nicholas Lucena will play in the first quarterfinal match on Monday, battling the Brazilian duo of Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt at 3 p.m. ET. Beach volleyball will be featured on NBC’s television coverage on Monday, with all four matches available live online via NBC Sports.
Also in action on Monday, Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai of Italy will take on Dmitri Barsuk and Nikita Liamin of Russia, another Russian team of Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Konstantin Semenov will play Cuba’s Nivaldo Diaz Gomez and Sergio Gonzalez Bayard. The Netherlands’ Reinder Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst will play fellow countrymen Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen.
There will be new men’s Olympic beach volleyball champions in Rio as Jonas Reckermann, the German who won gold alongside Julius Brink in London, was forced to retire due to injuries in 2013. They were the first European pair ever to win gold.
