The men’s welterweight division (69kg) held its semifinals on Monday as well. The first semifinal saw Shakhram Giyasov of Uzbekistan take down Mohammed Rabii of Morocco, punching his ticket to the finals and a shot at the gold medal. Two bronze medals are handed out in boxing, with no repechage round unlike wrestling and judo. Instead, the losers of the semifinals matches earn the bronzes, meaning Rabii got the first of those.
In the other semifinal, Daniyar Yeleussinov of Kazakhstan bested Souleymane Diop Cissokho of France, meaning the Frenchman took the other bronze medal. That set up a finals match between Yeleussinov and Giyasov, though that match will be on a different day.
The men’s middleweight division (75kg) quarterfinals will also held. Those four quarterfinals will be highlighted by Arlen Lopez of Cuba, Kamran Shakhsuvarly of Azerbaijan, Misael Uziel Rodriguez of Mexico and Bektemir Melikuziev of Uzbekistan.
