Three Olympic champions will be crowned on Tuesday night.
Athletes will return to a drying-out Olympic Stadium after heavy rains disrupted Monday’s events. Those three finals will buttress qualifying events in the women’s 200m dash, javelin, and long jump, as well as the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles race.
One man will separate himself from the pack to claim gold in one of the Games’ marquee field events when the high jump finals begin at 7:30 p.m. EST. He’ll have to outshine 2015 world champion Derek Drouin of Canada as well as top American competitor and 2012 silver medalist Erik Kynard.
The Games will crown a female middle distance queen two hours later. Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba set the world record in the 1500m last year, but a toe injury has prevented her from living up to her potential so far in 2016. Instead, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon will take the track with to win the event. Kipyegon finished second to Dibaba by less than a second at the 2015 World Championships.
Finally, Oregon football player Devon Allen will attempt to claim gold in one of the Games’ most exciting events. The 110m hurdles final starts at 9:45 p.m..
