Fabian Hambuechen of Germany took the gold medal in the men’s horizontal bar gymnastics event at the Rio Olympics on Tuesday. Danell Leyva of the United States won the silver medal, which unfortunately pushed teammate Sam Mikulak out of third and off the podium. Nile Wilson of Great Britain earned the bronze.

Hambuechen took gold over American Danell Leyva, who grabbed his second silver medal of the day.
Hambuechen went first and he set the bar very high with a score of 15.766. Wilson came on shortly after and managed a 15.466. Mikulak put up a 15.400 and was in third until Leyva came up as the very last competitor and unseated him, taking the silver at 15.500, pushing Mikulak into fourth.
Going into Tuesday, American Alex Naddour was the only man from the country to win a medal in gymnastics, taking the bronze on the pommel horse. Jake Daton and Mikulak both came up short in the floor exercise on Sunday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Leyva competed in the parallel bars and flirted with a gold medal, but was ultimately surpassed by Oleg Verniaiev of the Ukraine. Verniaiev managed a score of 16.041, while Leyva came in at 15.900 in the event to earn a silver medal.
On the women’s side, things have gone much better. Simone Biles won gold on the vault and bronze on the balance beam and earlier on Tuesday took the gold in the floor exercise, while teammate Aly Raisman grabbed silver. Laurie Hernandez also earned a silver medal on the balance beam, and another teammate, Madison Kocian, earned silver on the uneven bars.
