Three days after Justin Rose won golf’s first Olympic gold since 1904, the world’s best female golfers will get their chance to land on the podium.

The women’s field is stacked, as nine of the top 10 golfers in the world will take to the course in Rio de Janeiro.

Unlike the men’s field, which was ravaged by withdrawals, the women will be out at full strength in Rio de Janeiro. The world’s top nine female golfers will take to the capybara-ridden course to vie for Olympic supremacy beginning Wednesday. With 60 ranking points at stake for the gold medalist, this week’s event could have a significant effect on how the LPGA shakes out in 2016.
South Korea, with four golfers on the entrant list, is the early favorite to dominate the podium on Saturday. How good are the Koreans? The world’s 10th-ranked golfer, Ha Na Jang, couldn’t find a spot on the course because her home country had four golfers who were better than her. A fifth Korean citizen -- and current world No. 1 -- Lydia Ko will be representing New Zealand, where she has lived since she was a child.
Ko is the gold medal favorite, but Rose’s win on Sunday proved just being a favorite isn’t enough. The United States has sent three golfers to Rio. Lexi Thompson and Stacy Lewis are both getting 12/1 odds to win. That’s a far cry from Ko’s 3/1, but still a statement on the Americans’ chances to bolster their medal count this weekend.
