American swimmer Ryan Lochte maintains he was robbed at gunpoint in Rio along with three of his teammates, but those teammates have reportedly told police that Lochte fabricated the whole thing.

Things are getting weirder and weirder in the Ryan Lochte robbery case.
A Brazilian police official said that Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz, two of the swimmers who were pulled off a plane going back to the United States on Wednesday, claimed that Lochte fabricated the story, according to ESPN.
This report comes hot on the heels of a gas station video showing a confrontation between the USA swimmers and security at the gas station. Details are sketchy but reports suggest the Americans damaged the bathroom door at the gas station and it was demanded they pay for the damages.
The police official reportedly said the security officer had a pistol, but that he never took it out or aimed it at the swimmers. Lochte’s original story claimed that, when robbed, a pistol was pressed against his head. He backpedaled on this in an interview with NBC, saying a gun was pointed at him and then saying that his taxi was not actually stopped, but that the robbery occurred at a gas station.
A later report from the Associated Press said that Brazil police have confirmed guns were pointed at the swimmers by security guards during the gas station confrontation. How this actually led to Lochte’s claims of being robbed or where this is going from here is still totally up in the air.
Lochte is already in the United States, though a Brazilian judge did order his passport seized, same as his teammates. A police news conference to discuss the investigation is set for 2 p.m. ET, according to ESPN.
