Nine up, nine down. Usain Bolt has his perfect game. After anchoring the winning Jamaican 4x100-meter relay team to a gold medal in a time of 37.27 in Rio on Friday, Bolt is 9-0 in Olympic races over three separate Games.
Olympics 2016: Usain Bolt and Jamaica win gold in men’s 4x100m relay
Bolt has nine gold medals, because of course he does. He’s the best.
Bolt got the baton even with the US and sprinted away from everyone like he always does to bring home a gold for the team of Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake and Nickel Ashmeade.
Japan shocked to take second and the Canadian team took third. The US team passed the finish line in third, but was disqualified.
The U.S. team hasn’t medaled since 2004. The team of Michael Rodgers, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Trayvon Bromell thought they were able to pull it off, but a disqualification kept them from it again.
For Bolt, it was yet another reminder of his brilliance. Even in his third Olympic Games, he danced and smiled his way through three more gold medals. In Beijing, he shocked the world with gold and world records in the 100, 200 and 4x100. In London, he proved to be the best sprinter of all time with three more golds in the 100, 200 and 4x100. In Rio, he entered another stratosphere. His times weren’t mind-blowing, but he put on a show that once again was.
He did it with his teammates in the 4x100, relying on them to get the baton to him in position. They did exactly that, and Bolt took care of the rest.
Bolt crossed the finish line for the final time in an Olympic stadium on Friday, and after nine golds, he will be missed. His brilliance never got old.
