As is tradition, the men’s marathon will close out the Olympic Games on Sunday morning. The world’s best distance runners will race 26.2 mile through the streets of Rio.

Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge is expected to win, but the U.S.‘s Galen Rupp and Meb Keflezighi have a chance to medal.


Team USA could get its first marathon medal since Meb Keflezighi won silver in 2004 in Athens. Keflezighi is back 12 years later, running in his fourth Olympic games at the age of 41. He missed making the team in 2008, but came back to finish fourth in London and second at this year’s Olympic Trials.
Galen Rupp won that race in February, and is likely the U.S.‘s best hope for a medal. He was fifth in the 10,000 meters on August 13, so may be tired heading into the marathon, but the 2012 silver medalist in the 10,000 has a shot at medaling.
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge is the favorite to win gold. He’s been the best marathoner in the world for the last year, and ran 2:03:05 in London in April, the fastest time in the world and only eight seconds off the world record. Here’s how you can watch online:
