Washington head coach Jay Gruden confirmed on Monday that running back Matt Jones will miss the rest of the preseason.
Matt Jones out for the preseason but should be back to help fantasy owners in Week 1
Jones is making a quick recovery from a shoulder injury, but his preseason is over early. We break down the fantasy implications.

Jones suffered a separated shoulder in the team’s second preseason game, but Gruden believes he’s made “great strides” in his recovery. There is little concern that Jones will be ready for the team’s regular season opener against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
Jones is the heir apparent to longtime starter Alfred Morris, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency. He had a bit of an uneven rookie year, rushing for 490 yards and three touchdowns on 144 carries, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry. He also struggled with ball control, losing four fumbles.
Fantasy impact: Look for Chris Thompson and Rob Kelley to get the first-team preseason work in Jones’ absence. Washington is expecting Jones to be the full-time starter, but he could have some backfield competition if he struggles or gets hurt again. Jones has a lower fantasy floor than you’d like out of your RB2 position, making his fifth-round ADP a questionable price tag.
