Olympic swimming results 2016: Katinka Hosszu wins gold in women’s 400m individual medley
The Hungarian swimmer dominated the 400-meter individual medley and set a new world record while doing it.

Hosszu was already heavily favored, but she ended up with the swim of her life, easily outpacing the competition with a win that had her ahead of silver medalist Maya DiRado (United States) by nearly five seconds.
The finalists for the 400-meter individual medley are as follows:
- Katinka Hosszu, 4:26.36 (Hungary)
- Maya DiRado, 4:31.15 (United States)
- Mireia Belmonte, 4:32.39 (Spain)
- Hannah Miley, 4:32.54 (Great Britain)
- Emily Overholt, 4:34.70 (Canada)
- Elizabeth Beisel, 4:34.98 (United States)
- Aimee Willmott, 4:35.04 (Great Britain)
- Sakiko Shimizu, 4:38.06 (Japan)
Hosszu’s win, even if it was expected, was as dominant as you’ll see in the Olympics. She led throughout the race and never let up any ground from start to finish. You’ll see plenty of lopsided wins throughout Rio 2016, but this one almost took the cake with two weeks still left.
