German Andreas Toba shrugs off injury to secure team qualification

Toba looked like he would be done for the Olympics, but he recovered to earn qualification.

German Andreas Toba cried out in agony when he came down wrong on his knee during his floor routine earlier in the Olympics on Saturday. But after all the training that went into his preparation for Rio 2016, Toba wasn’t going to quit. Even though he needed help walking off the floor in the earlier event, Toba shrugged off the knee injury just hours later to secure his team’s qualification with an outstanding pommel horse routine.

Here is his routine, a miraculous effort considering how he had finished his earlier attempt in visible pain. After the injury, it clearly looked like his games were over.

Earlier in the day, Frenchman Samir Ait Said broke his left leg in a collision off the vault.
