Diana Taurasi ties her own Olympic record with five 3-pointers in win over Senegal

Maybe guard her next time?

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Diana Taurasi was a flamethrower from deep in Team USA’s 121-56 win over Senegal on Sunday, tying her Olympic record with five made three-pointers. Team USA also set records for points in a game and for the largest margin of victory in Olympic play, winning by 65 points.

Taurasi may not be shooting as well in the WNBA this season as she has in years past, but you have to think leaving her consistently wide open from deep wasn’t the best of ideas if you’re Senegal.

Four of her threes came in the opening quarter, and three in the opening four minutes. With a between-the-legs step-back Taurasi held a 9-2 lead over Senegal herself. Her burst helped the Americans cruise by on a 16-2 run to start the game and they never looked back.

In just 16 minutes, she finished with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and added three rebounds and two assists.
