FedExCup standings 2016: Dustin Johnson takes lead, Rickie Fowler fails to qualify for Tour Championship

Rickie Fowler won’t get one last chance to impress Davis Love III — a 58th-place finish in Indy will keep him out of the Tour Championship.

Rickie Fowler’s Ryder Cup fate is still up in the air, but he won’t get one last opportunity to convince Davis Love III he’s worthy of the final captain’s pick in two weeks at the Tour Championship.

A 58th-place finish wasn’t enough to keep Fowler in the top 30 of the FedExCup standings, which is required to participate at East Lake in two weeks.

“I did everything I could do,” said Fowler of his final round after a rough start to the week at Crooked Stick. “I went out and I didn’t play great today, but I didn’t play bad. And I put together a nice back nine, and — shoot — putts go in, and it would be a lot easier.

“I want to see guys play well and they’re all my buddies — you never root bad on anyone. All I could do was go play golf today and I’m done. Whatever happens, happens.”

Roberto Castro was one of the players who knocked Fowler out of the final event of the season. After a third-round 74, the 36-hole co-leader with Dustin Johnson rebounded nicely on Sunday to close with a 67 and settle for solo third.

After his win, Johnson will take the lead in the standings heading to Atlanta. All five players in the top five can win the FedExCup with a win in two weeks. Here are the full FedExCup standings heading to the Tour Championship.
