No. 20 LSU faces Mississippi State (7 p.m ET, ESPN2) in Death Valley this Saturday night, and the Tigers will have a brand new (well, technically old) look. On Monday, LSU announced that they would be wearing throwback “Gridiron Gold” jerseys to pay tribute to the ones worn in the 1940s.

Other throwback elements include a vintage block “L” logo on the right hip of the pants and the old school “Sailor Mike” logo on the collars of the jerseys.
The “Gridiron Gold” uniforms feature LSU’s Old Gold jerseys, which have the similar color that the Tigers wore during the 1940s. The uniforms also include white helmets, with players’ numbers on the helmets instead of LSU’s tiger logo.
”We’re very excited to wear the old LSU colors and honor the past with this new uniform,” said LSU’s Leonard Fournette in the school’s official release. “It’s a special moment for us to be able to wear it and represent Louisiana on the field. The uniform is a throwback; it’s a classy look.”
Saturday’s game against MSU will be the first time LSU has worn gold jerseys since 1998, when the Tigers faced Florida on the road at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The last time LSU wore gold jerseys in Tiger Stadium was 1996, when the Tigers won 35-0 over Vanderbilt.
