Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson suffered an injury to his right knee late in the third quarter of Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings ruled him out for the remainder of the game, and he will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said following Minnesota’s 17-14 win that Peterson “might miss a week, he might not,” and that the injury has “calmed down,” according to USA Today’s Tom Pelissero.

Michele Tafoya said on the NBC broadcast that medical staff were examining the outside of the back of Peterson’s knee closely.

Peterson was helped from the field and was unable to put any weight on his right leg. He was then helped to the locker room for further medical assessment. When he left the locker room following the game, his knee was in a brace and he was on crutches.

The injury occurred on a 5-yard run, and replay showed that Peterson’s lower right leg was twisted during the tackle.

Peterson has missed little time due to injury in his career. He made a preternaturally swift recovery from a torn ACL and MCL late in the 2011 season. He returned to the Vikings in Week 1 of the 2012 season and went on to be named league MVP that year.

The Packers held Peterson to 19 yards on 12 carries. Against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, Peterson had 31 yards on 19 carries.
