San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead tore his right ACL in the team’s Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Woodhead went down in obvious pain after his right leg got caught beneath him while taking a big hit from Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith early in the first half. The eighth-year RB was carted off the field and unable return to the game. This is the second time Woodhead’s season was cut short early in the past three years after he missed most of the 2014 season with broken fibula.

Fantasy Impact: The Chargers are having the worst luck in 2016. First, standout wideout Keenan Allen goes down in Week 1 with a torn ACL. Now, the team’s top running-receiving threat is out for the season also with an ACL tear.
Though Woodhead leaves another large hole to fill in the Chargers offense, Melvin Gordon seems to be ready to take on the responsibilities. Gordon rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown in San Diego’s Week 2 victory, and already has three touchdowns for the Chargers this season. The 2015 first-round draft pick will be a bright spot on owners’ rosters in place of the fallen Woodhead.
