Rookie running back Paul Perkins should make the New York Giants’ roster, according to NJ.com, despite struggles to hold on to the ball. The fifth-round pick fumbled his first carry of the night in the Giants’ preseason finale Thursday. He also had a dropped ball on a swing pass later in the game. Perkins finished the preseason with just 50 yards on 16 carries. In the passing game he caught four passes on seven targets for 33 yards, with two dropped balls. Perkins is currently the No. 5 RB on the Giants roster.

Perkins was once considered a fantasy sleeper early in the preseason. Now, he looks to be a weekly inactive behind Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams. The rookie RB will not see time on the field unless his performance in practice gets tremendously better or every other RB on the Giants’ roster is out. Fantasy owners may want to leave Perkins as a free agent for now until he can overcome coughing up the ball.
