Carlos Hyde may clear the NFL’s concussion protocol in time to play in Week 1. On Wednesday, Hyde was cleared for a return to football activity, according to CSN Bay Area reporter Matt Maiocco.

Maiocco did note that Hyde was wearing a non-contact jersey for Wednesday’s practice, putting his Week 1 status in question. Hyde is recovering from a concussion suffered on Aug. 26, so he is making good progress less than two weeks after the injury.
The San Francisco 49ers will rely on Hyde as their top back when healthy, something he has struggled with entering his third NFL season.
Fantasy Spin: Concussions can be a tricky thing, but Hyde plays Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams, giving him an extra day to get clearance. However, Hyde playing the final game of the week makes it risky to start him if he is questionable going into the contest.
Hyde projects as a top-15 running back this week, but try and keep your options open going into Sunday’s full slate of games. If he is listed as questionable, you’re probably better off starting someone else just to be safe.
