Ben McAdoo says reports of Giants trashing plane are ‘bullshit’

During a radio appearance with Mike Francesa of WFAN on Wednesday, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo made it clear that reports of his players trashing a plane on the way back from the wild card loss to the Packers were false.

On Monday morning, a United Airlines flight from Newark, N.J., to London was delayed while the flight crew cleaned up the first class cabin. The plane was reportedly the one that carried Giants players back to the East Coast after the devastating 38-13 loss to the Packers in Green Bay.

McAdoo, however, said the reports are untrue.

“No, that’s bullshit, Mike,” McAdoo said.

That wasn’t the only controversy to emerge after New York’s loss on Sunday. Responding to reports that receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had punched a hole in a wall following the loss, McAdoo said he understood the emotion behind it, but Beckham needed to remain in control.

“It doesn’t matter what happens on the field. We have to act appropriately in the locker room after,” McAdoo said. “And we know it’s an emotional game. There’s a lot of passion, a lot of emotion that goes into it, but we can’t take that out on other people’s property.”

Beckham and other Giants players made headlines, and punchlines, earlier in the week when they were photographed hanging out on a yacht with Trey Songz on the team’s day off.

McAdoo said that whole situation had no bearing on the Giants’, and specifically Beckham’s, performance against Green Bay.

“I think that he had his best week of preparation since (Beckham has) been here, and I think his week was excellent,” McAdoo said. “He was prepared for the ballgame. He went into the ballgame, he may have been pressing a little bit. His routes were excellent. His speed was good.

“We let a couple of opportunities slip through our fingers, and he’s going to be as hard on himself as anybody will be about not coming up with those catches, and he feels like he let a lot of people down.”

It was a disappointing loss for the Giants. McAdoo said the team has to use it as “a driving force” to prepare for next season.

“We’ve got to come back hungry,” McAdoo said. “Hungry, and a little bit angry.”

The Giants were eliminated from the playoffs with Sunday’s loss to Green Bay, but the 2016 season was a tremendous improvement over the previous season’s 6-10 finish. New York has plenty to build on from this season.
