Some coaches would view a rainy January day as an obstacle. Bill Belichick saw a gloomy afternoon in Foxborough as an opportunity — to roast tailback Dion Lewis.
Bill Belichick roasted Dion Lewis’ fumble problems 4 days after he scored 3 touchdowns
“Great day for ball security, right Dion?”

Belichick, a master at firing devastating one-liners at his own players, poked fun at Lewis’ fumble issues in last week’s playoff win over the Texans. Houston’s only touchdown -- the only touchdown the franchise has scored in its last three games against New England — came after the running back’s inability to protect the ball gave the Texans possession at the NE 12-yard line. He also fumbled on a second half carry the Patriots were fortunate to recover.
Of course, the speedy back also scored three touchdowns against Houston, including a 98-yard kickoff return three possessions before setting up the Texans’ lone trip to the end zone.
Lewis has been a force since New England pulled him from the scrap heap. His ability to create space as both a runner and a receiver has helped the Patriots overcome the recent loss of Rob Gronkowski. He set an NFL record Saturday by becoming the first player in playoff history to score via rushing, receiving, and kickoff return touchdowns.
The team has gone 15-0 in games where Lewis takes the field. Maybe Belichick should be a bit nicer to his mismatch-creating running back.
