It was clear all season long that the 49ers had problems up and down the organization. On Monday, after firing head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke, we started learning the depths of their dysfunction.
Finger-pointing has begun for fired 49ers folks
The Black Monday spin is already out of control in San Francisco.

Baalke reportedly had too little communication with Kelly’s staff and his players. And those issues stretched as far back as the 2016 draft, when Kelly lobbied to select Dak Prescott and was ignored by the GM, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
It’s worth pointing out that this could easily be the opposite, too. Kelly seems to be getting his side of the story out before Baalke gets his chance.
These are pretty damning accusations and would show more justification than necessary for firing Baalke as the team looks for its fourth head coach in as many years.
But with both the GM and head coach given the boot and a team with personnel issues at nearly every position, it’s not shocking to see so much finger-pointing heading into the offseason. Especially for someone like Kelly, who was one of the hottest coaching prospects a few years ago.
It’s also a bit suspect to pin a disaster of a season on not selecting a quarterback who ended up as the 135th pick. And there’s no saying Prescott would’ve been as successful without all the talent around him in Dallas. That’s to say nothing of the fact that Colin Kaepernick threw for 16 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Still, the number of different narratives coming out of San Francisco today shows just how many problems the organization has. All of which the Niners will need to prove have been solved by firing Baalke and Kelly.
