Kyle Shanahan almost lost the Falcons’ Super Bowl LI game plan at Opening Night

That would have been pretty awful.

The Atlanta Falcons had quite the scare at Super Bowl Opening Night, and it involved offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

At the conclusion of the team’s media session, Shanahan noticed that his backpack was missing. Inside the backpack, was the team’s game plan for Super Bowl LI.

“I’ve got to find it,” Shanahan told USA TODAY Sports. Apparently, Shanahan had spent nearly 30 minutes looking for it and making phone calls before San Francisco Examiner columnist Art Spander returned the bag. He had accidentally taken it.

“I’ve screwed up before, but I’ve never picked up the wrong bag,” Spander said. “And there’s no way I’d have a game plan.”

Hey, Spander was worried too:

It’s understandable that Shanahan might have a bag of possessions with him, but perhaps bringing the game plan with you somewhere isn’t the best idea, especially if people who would want it could take it.

“That would have been bad,” Shanahan said in a text to USA TODAY Sports.

Yes, that would have been tremendously bad!
