Brandon Marshall says Jets’ season was like ‘having a diaper on and never changing it’

Seems like a pretty accurate description.

The New York Jets finished the 2016 season with a 4-12 record and dead last in the AFC East. Brandon Marshall explained what that felt like in a rather descriptive way.

”The best way I can describe it is, having a diaper on and never changing it,” Marshall said on a recent appearance on Showtime’s Inside the NFL. “And just sitting in that diaper the whole year.

“That’s how our year was. It was a bad year.”

Marshall didn’t seem terribly thrilled about having to discuss the Jets’ implosion this season, though he was good-natured about it.

“First of all, is this 60 Minutes?Marshall asked his co-hosts, laughing.

The Jets’ passing game was a liability this season. Over 14 games, primary starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 2,710 yards and just 12 touchdowns, with 17 interceptions.

Marshall finished the season with 59 catches for 788 yards and three touchdowns.

It wasn’t an easy season in New York for Marshall in any context. He was involved in a loud argument in the locker room with his teammate, defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson, following a loss to the Chiefs in Week 3.

After Marshall said he was “embarrassed” by the team’s 41-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 15, Richardson fired back at Marshall.

He should be embarrassed,” Richardson said.

Based on the fact that he compared it to sitting in a dirty diaper for 17 straight weeks, it sounds like Marshall is still embarrassed by the Jets’ performance this season.
