Avalanche and Bruins would make good trade partners if prices dropped

Small chance of that, though.

A HARD BARGAIN

Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming NHL trade deadline: Everyone wants a top-four defenseman, and there aren’t many on the market.

Prices are steep.

So, naturally, some teams are asking around for players who could become top-four defensemen. And they’re getting shot down.

On paper, the Avalanche and Bruins are a good fit for a trade of some sort. At least when you look at what the Avalanche might be willing to give up. Gabriel Landeskog is the hard-nosed-yet-skilled winger the Bruins love. Tyson Barrie is a right-handed, puck-moving defenseman. Get him and you don’t need to spend as much going after Kevin Shattenkirk this summer. Even Jerome Iginla would make a certain bit of sense.

And yet, Colorado’s price is steep. On Saturday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said the Bruins have told teams they’re not trading young defenseman Brandon Carlo. You’d have to assume Charlie McAvoy is off the table as well after that World Juniors performance. Suddenly there’s a roadblock to a deal that could work out for both sides.

I feel like that’s the case around the league. Players to be had, needs to be met, but prices too high. Whether that changes before the deadline is a legitimate question.
