Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore took a brutal hit from Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree in Miami’s 30-12 loss in Wild Card play on Sunday. It appeared initially that Moore might have been concussed, but he returned to the game. The NFL and NFLPA will each review the Dolphins’ execution of the league’s concussion protocol in Moore’s case, according to USA Today’s Tom Pelissero.

It’s important to note that the league’s decision to investigate doesn’t necessarily mean they’re aware of any wrongdoing.

The hit Dupree put on Moore was violent and directly to Moore’s chin, and Dupree was flagged for roughing the passer.

Moore left the game for just one play and was replaced by backup T.J. Yates. Moore returned after going through some tests on the sideline.

After the game, Moore said that the hit affected his jaw more than anything else and asserted that he was fine, but the league will look into the matter further.

During the offseason, the league strengthened its punishments for teams found to be in violation of the concussion protocol. Teams that don’t follow the protocol appropriately are subject to steep fines and loss of draft picks.
