If it was up to Carmelo Anthony, he’d probably be in Houston right about now. But his 10-year-old son Kiyan knew all along that Oklahoma City was the spot. Anthony told Marc Stein of The New York Times that his son preferred the Thunder as his next team even as trade speculation involving the Knicks and Rockets dragged on.

“My son said he wanted me to play for O.K.C.,” Anthony said. “Even before O.K.C. was in the picture.
“My son has a basketball mind,” he continued. “So I will always throw little topics at him. He was like, ‘Dad, where you getting traded to?’ I told him, ‘I don’t know, where do you think I should go?’ He said: ‘You really want me to give you my opinion? I think you should go to O.K.C.’”
The Knicks eventually traded Melo to the Thunder for Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott, and a second-round pick. The 10-time All-Star joined a group that already featured reigning league MVP Russell Westbrook and perennial All-Star Paul George. Last year with Westbrook alone, Oklahoma City finished sixth in the West with a 47-35 record. Now with one of the NBA’s more stacked rosters, Oklahoma City projects to compete with the Spurs, Rockets, and Timberwolves for second fiddle to the Warriors in the Western Conference.
If this wild experiment in OKC works, maybe Melo will listen to his son more often.
