Joe Flacco in concussion protocol after late hit by Kiko Alonso

Flacco was knocked out on a brutal hit by the Dolphins linebacker.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco left Thursday night’s game after taking a horrific shot at the end of a run from Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso. The team confirmed that he’s in concussion protocol and ruled him out at halftime.

While sliding down after a scramble, Flacco got blasted by Alonso, knocking his helmet off and leading to a scuffle between the two teams. Alonso was flagged for unnecessary roughness but did not draw an ejection. Flacco went to the medical tent and sat out the rest of the second quarter.

Ryan Mallett took his place under center and threw a touchdown to Benjamin Watson, extending the Ravens’ lead to 20-0.

With his team winning comfortably, there was no reason to rush Flacco back in the game. He’ll have 10 days to get cleared before the Ravens’ Week 9 contest with the Tennessee Titans.
